Watching the Sea Lions

One of my favorite things to do is go down to the area know as Pier 39 and watch the Sea Lions. Something that I just think is cool and relaxes me.

No one knows why the sea lions showed up after the Loma Prieta earthquake in October 1989 and had taken over a what is know as K-Dock by January of 1990. The best guess is that there a is plentiful supply of food and no predators in the San Francisco Bay, the Pier 39 K-Dock is the perfect home for them. It didn't make the merchants at Pier 39 happy but after talking to the Marine Mammal Center the sea lions where allowed to stay in their new home and have become and attraction themselves. I for one are happy to have them and love watching them there:

Glad that the sea lions have found a home at Pier 39 and hope they are there for many generations to come.

  1. I loved watching the sea lions on the pier! The first time we went there were so many but hardly any the second time. I agree that it's relaxing to watch them! You're lucky!!!

  6. Really enjoyed your photos! Last summer we were blessed to go on a Galapagos cruise where we saw many sea lions, including a visit to a large, isolated colony of them with many newborns and pups.
