Eric Roberson at Yoshi's

A couple of weeks ago, I went out to Yoshi's in San Francisco. Yoshi's is a jazz club, there is one in Oakland and San Francisco. I went to see Eric Roberson perform. Roberson has been nominated for two Grammy's in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category. He has worked with Jill Scott and DJ Jazzy Jeff:

This was a really cool show. Eric Roberson is a great entertainer and I really enjoyed it. Wish it was longer, though.

The Work of Lee Susman

I was at the Oakland A's Fan Fest (I should blog about that-oops) a couple of weeks ago and they had a display of the great work of former Oakland Tribune cartoonist Lee Susman. Susman who passed away two years ago, was cartoonist who depicted local college and pro football teams, baseball teams and basketball teams appeared in the Tribune from 1946 until his retirement in 1983.

In addition to his popular newspaper drawings, Susman designed the logos for the Oakland Oaks and Sacramento Solons of the Pacific Coast League as well as the Oakland Oaks of the American Basketball Association. These are some of his baseball cartoons:

Lil Tuffy Gig Posters

I was walking In Downtown Oakland and I saw a sign for Lil Tuffy Gig Posters. I found out it was display of the great rock poster artist Lil Tuffy. He has designed posters for a lot of music artists and has had his work displayed all around the world. I asked if I could take some pics they said I could as long as I did not get too close:

It is President's Day

It is President's Day here in the States. To me, it is an office that demands respect even if you do not agree with the views of the man (or woman) who holds the office. I was in Half-Price Books today and decided to take a couple of pics of some books and things  that are dedicated to the people that have served as United States President:

Out shortest term President-William Henry Harrison-He only was President for 41 days. He died of sickness that he got during his inaugural address which was the longest on record

James Polk-the man who made the young nation stretch from coast-to-coast

A little dated but the audio CD is great. 

So remember, while you are enjoying the day off that this day is to remember the people who have served this nation in its highest office.

Heroes and Hearts 2014

For the second straight year, I walked by the display window at the Macy's in Union Square in San Francisco and took look at the Heroes and Hearts sculptures that will auctioned off on Thursday (2-13-14) at AT&T Park.

All the money raised goes to the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation which does a lot of good in the community.

In the window display they had two sizes of hearts: The one that was a table-top heart and was 25 lbs and a mini-heart that are five lbs. They have the real big ones that weigh 400 lbs that will be auctioned off also.
