Monet: The Early Years
I went to the Legion of Honor in San Francisco and got to see a great exhibition of the early work of the great French painter Claude Monet. It is the first major U.S. exhibition that is devoted to his early work. (In advance sorry if the pics are not perfect-since it was the second to last weekend a ton of people were there):
The exhibition focused on his work as he was growing as a painter. There was some genius stuff going on in his early years.
Very powerful! Someday I hope to visit his garden just outside of Paris.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI've always loved Monet's work. You were fortunate to get to see this exhibit.
ReplyDeleteI like the contrast (and the development of similarities) to his later impressionist style. Thanks for the photos of your visit to the exhibition.
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking art!

Still good in his early years for sure.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great experience! I'd love to see those paintings.
ReplyDeleteLove Monet's paintings. So neat to see his early paintings. I have a few framed prints and at one point had some stationary with his prints.
ReplyDeleteHave you been to Monet's house in Giverny, France? If you enjoyed this, I bet you would enjoy seeing the place that inspired his paintings. :) I blogged about it here if you want to check it out.
ReplyDeleteWith Love,
Mandy
He is one of my favorite artists. I got my bachelors degree in Fine Art (for some odd reason--since you can't find a good job with that degree! ha!) and I was required to visit lots of art museums. I think I've seen his work at some of the museums I went to back in the day, but don't go to art museums much at all anymore. Thanks for taking me through a wonderful exhibit, Patrick!
ReplyDeleteClaude Monet has been one of my favourite artists for a very long time! I really enjoyed this post and beautiful paintings. Thank you so much for sharing, Patrick. :)
ReplyDeleteI have very little expertise in art history, but Monet has always been one of my favorite painters. We were fortunate to have an exhibit of impressionists (including several of Monet's paintings) here in Savannah a couple of years ago. I so much enjoyed that exhibit.
ReplyDeleteI never saw the work from Monet's early years! I LOVE these paintings! I can crawl right into them.
