This is a happy post. Last Friday, Books on B opened up in my town of Hayward, Ca. Our independent bookstore in Downtown Hayward is back. We used to have The Book Shop which served downtown for over 55 years. Sadly in February it closed but longtime Book Shop employee Renee Rettig took it upon on herself to keep the legacy of an independent bookstore in Downtown Hayward and worked hard to open Books on B (It is on B St). It was a great grand opening with politicians, people dressed up, wine and music:

It is so cool that we have our independent bookstore back in Downtown Hayward. I know I will support and I have already made a purchase there.
How wonderful! That would have been a very sad day when The Book Shop closed. I'm so glad that the former employee was able to open another shop. Independent bookstores are an endangered species.
ReplyDeleteHooray for books and for bookstores everywhere!
ReplyDeleteAnytime an independent book store opens (or re-opens) it's a cause for victory, joy and celebration these days.
