Music Monday: Sappy 80's Tunes
Music Monday: The 80's were my decade. It was when I came of age. Here are some of the sappiest tunes of that decade (or the ones that you hide out and listen to because you are embarrassed that you love them):
Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday and enjoys being sappy.
WOW... Just came from a hard rock place or is it called acid rock.. I personally don't know the difference. NOW 80'S & 70'S THAT'S WHAT i GREW UP WITH.. FOR MY ERA... but I have to admit there was also 60's because I had a brother that was six yrs. older than I so I had to listen to his too! He used me as his partner for jitterbug too so he could practice at home, so he would look good at dances. ~hehehe~ Your 1st tune a definite radio tune for singin.. Motley Crew I never listened to it much unless it was on the radio, next up Tiffany.. I thing she snuck in & snuck out cuz I don't remember her at all. Hungry Eyes all I can say is "Dirty Dancin"! Oh yeah, Bryan Adams a favorite of mine... you rock is all I can say to him! Very cool... now Lady in Red.. I remember.. because my hubby played that tune all night one night when we went out for Valentines day & I was in RED! He played it on the radio & requested it from the band. Very cool evening oh... and he sang it to me too! Oh yeah, he was a smooth talker... bwahahahahaha Thanks Patrick for bringin' me back to our world. YOU ROCK!!! Big hugs... great job! So when are you gonna jump on to our rock wagon & be a Honorary Conduct & pick themes for a month.. I've got February 2018 open... ~hehehe~ Have a great week my friend... see you in Cyberland!
You know me, I love those sappy '80's tunes. I've been listening to Peter Cetera's old band most of the day, and I kind of wish he was still with them, although I'm not sure he could reanimate that corpse. Great set!
The 80's rule! Chris DeBurgh, wonderful dancing from Dirty Dancing, Bryan Adams..sigh.I do remember Tiffany as a name, but never listened to her music. So, thank you for the 80's moment on this rainy, rainy, night.
I. Absolutely. Love. Snappy. Mewsic!! I used to be a huge 'Days of Our Lives' fan and if I'm not mistaken they used Chris DeBurgh's 'Lady in Red' for Patch & Kayla. What fun memories! I love Peter Cetera's old stuff, especially when he was with Chicago. Thanks for hitting the dance floor with such a fabulous selection of song choices spinning on the turntable!
What a great selection. I love that Peter Cetera one and Tiffany always brings back fond memories of being a teenage :) Thanks for sharing at Creative Mondays.
Hi Patrick, I got a good giggle from your opening statement, in particular this line: "... (or the ones that you hide out and listen to because you are embarrassed that you love them)" Hahahaha. That was funny. But true, right?
My decade was more the 70s. By the time the 80s rolled around I was in college and being very serious. I partied of course, and there was a lot of music, but I was certainly more focused on studying and projects and classes (and skipping Business Economics on Tuesdays when the bar had nickel drafts from 11am-1pm. haha). And then I graduated college and was getting my career kicked off so I wasn't paying as close attention to music as I was back in the 70s.
I have always thought of the 80s as the decade of the ballads. There were a lot of love songs and, as you put it, sappy songs.
Of your set list here I really like Peter Cetera's "Glory of Love". He had a pretty successful solo career after Chicago but I definitely like his Chicago days better. Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" was also a really good one that I liked from that "hair band"...
I'm not at all familiar with Tiffany. I even looked her up on Wiki and checked out her discography but still didn't recognize any of her songs.
Loved "Hungry Eyes" and Dirty Dancing.
If I were asked to pick my favorite artist from the 80s, it would almost definitely be Bryan Adams. He was huge for me back in college. My friends and I played the Cuts Like a Knife and Reckless albums to death...and I still love them!
The 80s were a supremely self-indulgent decade. I remember rocking along in my career, essentially just getting started (in 1985) and wishing I was in a higher income bracket because it certainly was a time of climbing and decadence and acquisitions. The latter part of the 80s for me was like taking a dip in decadence. I was in broadcast advertising and radio sales and it was a good time to be in those industries. Today we have the "Me Too" movement; back in the 80s it was just the "Me" movement: What's in it for me? Greed is good. Buy, buy, buy. More, more, more. It was all about luxury and living the high life. Climb, climb, climb. Labels (designer) were everything. Think "Wall Street" (the movie with Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen). It was a crazy time but it was oh so fun. I don't know how I got off on that tangent but I spend a lot of time talking about the 70s, but the 80s was definitely a good decade too and for sure it was good for music too.
So which decade was better for music, do you think, the 70s or the 80s? I guess it depends on who you're asking. Both were good but they were very different from each other.
Thanks so much for taking us on this very cool 80s ride! I definitely enjoyed...
LOVE 80's music! In fact, when I'm hanging out with my BFF, she prefers to keep her satellite radio tuned into 80's music! :)
I love your song choices so much, I'm gonna go back and listen to them again - but no worries, I won't be hiding while I do! LOL!! Thanks for the dance! :)
