Recently, I visited a friend who lived in Copperopolis. Copperopolis is is a small town about 40 miles east of Stockton. It was a big mining town that was famous for its copper mines. The mines closed in 1946 and the big industry the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC). SCC is one of the two prisons in the State responsible for the training and placement of male inmates in the Conservation Camp Program.
My friend drove me around a little bit:
First we drove by was Crystal Lake:
And then we stopped and walked around the Town Square area:
The Town Hall |
Copperopolis Olive Oil Company. Turns out the owner went to the same high school as me |
Reportedly, Mark Twain wrote one of his greatest works "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" while living in Copperopolis |
And we ended up at the Yummy Ha!Ha! Ice Cream Shop. Where they had some great original art work on the walls:
Copperopolis is a cute and quaint small town (about 3,600 people), if you are ever out that way give it a visit.
What a lovely looking place and that lake does look crystal clear. Is that how it got its name I wonder?
ReplyDeleteI'm not too sure about the frog but love the artwork... and who wouldn't like to dive into a tub of hot fudge! (Well, as long as it wasn't too hot of course!) #teamlovinlife

ReplyDeletehave never heard of it. so cute!
ReplyDeletePatrick, small towns are great fun to visit. You just never know what you'll learn or discover. That's interesting the guy that owns the olive oil business went to your high school. We stumble across people all the time who either live in our home state of WV or went to the same college as DH or something along these lines. It's just crazy how small the world seems to be getting all the time! I love the name of that ice cream shop - Ha!Ha! Do they make their own ice cream? Thanks for sharing and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLove the outdoor photos, it looks beautiful there #sharethejoy

ReplyDeletePat! You just took me back to my childhood with The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. The movie version would air a few Saturdays out of the year on TV when I was a kid.
