A Visit to Bizarro World Comics Store

When I was in Davis, I literally stumbled on this store called Bizarro World. It is a true comics store. Yeah. I know that some people don't think that comic books have any kind of literary merit but I do. A whole of kids (like me) discovered a passion for reading through comic books and we moved on (or in my case-somewhat not) and started reading other stuff. Remember that Saturday, May 2nd is National Comic Book Day:

It was the store's 20th Anniverary

Any place that has Star Ward figures is cool
One of the best games ever

Some nice titles
Love R.Crumb

Got to like it

and my modest haul for the day:

Comics can be a gateway to gets kids to start reading. Go by a Comics Store on Saturday, May 2nd.

Hung Yi at Civic Center

Talk about how life throws you a curve. Last week I was at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic and remembering the comments from the blog I posted last year of the event, people wanted to see more of the Hung Yi sculptures that were on the course. So, I walked around and took pics of those. Anyway, I go to the Civic Center in San Francisco and there is another exhibition of his work with different sculptures, so you get this one now and the golf course one at a later date.

Hung Yi is a Taiwanese sculptor and painter. These pieces are large-scale steel sculptures that are finished in enamel and imbued with colorful Taiwanese cultural elements:

Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.

Music Monday: My Feel Good Songs

For this Music Monday, here are a couple of songs that get me going when I feel a little in dumps (What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong is my favorite but I think many people will be using that)

I know it is a strange mix but these are the songs that help through tough times.

A Visit to the UC Museum of Paleontology

The UC Museum of Paleontology is a great place. It is only open one day a year to the public. The rest of the time it is a research museum. I got to visit it on that single day it was open:

Smilodon (Saber tooth cat) skull
Smilodon (Saber tooth cat) skeleton with a modern house cat skeleton under it
Edmontosaurus annectans (duck-billed dinosaur) skull
Triceratops Skull
Got to love the Terachdyal
And the star of the museum:

T-Rex

The UC Museum of Paleontology is a great place. Just wish it was open more.
