Three Years Away From AARP

I am adding another ring around my tree, turning 47 here this weekend. I am just three years away from getting those discounts from AARP which is something that keeps me going.

I am not a big birthday celebration person, so on this blog I like to share what keeps me going. Last year it was my shot glass collection, the year before was bobbleheads and in 2016 will be my love for the comic strip Doonesbury.

I have loved Doonesbury since I was about 10 or 11. My godfather gave me this book and I have been hooked ever since:

I have become a fiend in tracking down Doonesbury books. At last count I had about 47 different ones. I love Gary Trudeau's work:

One thing I like about Gary Trudeau is that he is a big supporter of veterans and their plight since he started the strip during the Vietnam War.  Being a veteran myself, I like that. He has visited Walter Reed Medical Center and Fisher House many times and the proceeds of a couple of his books have gone to support Fisher House Foundation and other veterans groups:

One of the Doonesbury books that supports veterans.
One the coolest books I have is a signed book I found a library book sale. I about doubled over when I saw it and bought it on the spot. Trudeau doesn't do many book signings:

I proud to say I am a huge fan of Doonesbury and Gary Trudeau and will always be. I will out collecting his books for years to come as his work keeps me smiling.

  5. Thank you for reminding me about Doonesbury! I loved it when I lived in Canada and it had kind of slipped my mind. That's cool you have a book actually signed by Gary Trudeau. Sadly we don't get AARP discounts here in the UK, and 'senior citizens discounts' don't start until 65! Thank you for sharing with us at the Hearth and Soul Hop.
