Last Supper in Pompeii

The museums are back open here in San Francisco and I have been going to a bunch, so sorry in advance if you see a lot of art exhibits in the next couple of weeks. I am so happy that I am a member of the museums around here as everything these days is about reservations and members get first crack.

I was so happy to see that Legion of Honor is back open. I have a dual membership to the deYoung and Legion of Honor. Anyway.

I went to an exhibit at the Legion of Honor about Pompeii and the exhibit focuses on how the people of Pompeii lived with the artifacts that survived :

A statue of Bacchus with a panther

One of the cool things is some Fresco's survived like this one

A Basin

A Fresco

A Fresco and shrine from a house

A Kettle

A Fresco

A chamber pot

There are some serious reminders about how much loss of life and damage that Mt. Vesuvius did:

A loaf of carmelized bread

A carmelized body

It was so amazing to see these items that survived almost 2,000 years. It was so very cool.

  1. A fascinating slice of history. The world has learnt so much about everyday Roman life by what happened in Pompeii.

  4. I love museums! I'm so glad you're a member of a few. I'll be looking forward to all the photos. I visited Pompeii when I was 19. I was with some friends. We weren't on a guided tour and it was close to closing time, so I explored as quickly as I could and took photos in dim light (before digital cameras). Thanks for linking on Amanda's Books and More!

  7. I am fascinated by Pompeii. We went there a few years ago on a cruise and spent the day there with a private guide. I don't like to put links in comments, but my recent Wordless Wednesday posts were photos I took there if you are interested.
