Being a Super Geek-Buying Baseball Cards

A box of 1991 Topps Stadium Club
Some of you know that I am geek. I was walking around Newpark Mall in Newark, Ca the other day and saw a store that I was opened. They are just getting things together and their grand opening will be here coming up. I saw that they had unopened boxes and packs from the late 80's/early 90's for cheap and I bought a box of 1991 Topps Stadium Club Series I and 20  assorted packs from the era. Did not cost me more than $40. I am still going through the Stadium Club Box and who knows that might have its own blog:

Unopened packs of 1991 Topps Stadium Club
Unopened packs (from top left corner going clockwise): 1990 Donruss, 1989 Fleer, 1987 Donruss, 1989 Donruss, 1992 Topps, 1987 Topps
More unopened packs (from top left going clockwise): 1993 Donruss Series 1, 1990 Upper Deck, 1992 Upper Deck, 1994 Topps Stadium Club Series 3
And they were trying to get away from gum, so they inserted this stuff:

1987 Topps Spring Fever Baseball, 1994 Topps Fantastic Finishers Info Card, 1992 Topps Match the Stars Game, 1989 Fleer Baseball Sticker
And then you have the cards:

The 1987 Roids Boys:  (Donruss 1987 cards from left) Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmerio, Roger Clemens
1987 Shooting Stars that faded quickly (All 1987 Topps-from left): Jose Canseco, Chris Brown and Eric Davis
The Hall of Famers finishing their careers (from left Clockwise -All 1987 Donruss except Seaver which is 1987 Topps): Carlton Fisk, Reggie jackson, Rich "Goose"Goosage, Tom Seaver, Steve Carlton
Hall of Famers in their prime (from left clockwise): Robin Yount '87 Topps, Ozzie Smith '87 Topps, Kirby Puckett '87 Donruss, Ryne Sandberg '92 Topps, Barry Larkin '90 Upper Deck, Eddie Murray '94 Stadium Club.
Future Hall of Famers beginning their careers (from left clockwise): '92 Upper Deck Craig Biggio, '94 Stadium Frank Thomas, '94 Omar Vizquel
And here are a foursome that everybody thought Cooperstown would be calling but they fizzled quickly and were not worth the hype:

From left: '93 Upper Deck Ricky Jordan, '92 Upper Deck Gregg Jeffires, '89 Fleer Gary Thurman, '92 Topps Sam Horn

A rookie prospect card that I really like:

'92 Topps-Top Shortshops featuring Chipper Jones

Finally a pairing of the Oakland A's brain trust:

Current A's pitching coach Curt Young (left) and current A's manager Bob Melvin (right)
I had a blast opening these packs. Hope to do it soon with others soon.
