Soul of a Nation
I am now a member of the deYoung Museum in San Francisco. I now am a member of the major museums in the Bay Area (Legion of Honor, SFMOMA, Oakland Musuem) which is quite scary. Sorry for the personal plug. Anyway, the deYoung has this great exhibit called "Soul of a Nation", it is art made by Bay Area African-American artists during the decades of Black Power (1963-1983). To me it was extremely powerful to see this art (Sorry if I have some weird angles as the exhibit is always packed):
Growing up in that era, it was nice to see art work by Bay Area African-American artists from that era that promoted personal and cultural pride as well as collective solidarity, empowerment and polticial and social activism.
