Monterey Museum of the American Indian

When I was in Monterey (my daughter goes to college there), I visited the Monterey Museum of the American Indian. It tells the story of Native Americans in the Monterey area through artifacts (I lost my notes, so there will no captions):

The Monterey Museum of the American Indian is one of the best little museums I have been to, if you are in the area stop on by.

Music Monday: The 1985 Academy Award Nominees

With the 2015 Academy Award nominees going to be announced in a couple of weeks, I have decided to review the five songs that were nominated in 1985 which honors the movies of 1984.

1984 was one of the greatest years in songs for the film as seven songs that were featured in films hit Number 1 on the Billboard Top 100. For the first and only time in Oscar history, all five nominated songs were #1 hits. Here are the five nominees:

And the Academy Award goes to:

A great year for songs in film.

Somethings to Look At

Saw this in a window of a store
I am always taking pics of things I see when walking around and most of the time they don't fit in blogs:

Inside Wells Fargo in SF
Love this bike
The Castro Theater at night
Empty Candlestick Park from the street
Saw this and I loved it. (it is a fake cow)
And I was at a mall and tried to get two different shots of buildings:

The BookShop West Portal

I was out with the kiddos in San Francisco and saw this cool little book shop called BookShop West Portal and decided to look around. It was your classic cool, neighborhood book store:

As you walk in

Love this boat there
Noam Chomsky and Sigmund Freud candles are too cool
A couple of S.F. titles
Got to love books
We only spent a little time at The BookShop West Portal. I really need to go back. It is what we need more of-Neighborhood Book Stores.

A Visit to Downtown Container Park

One of coolest places I have ever been is Downtown Container Park in Downtown area of Las Vegas-off the strip. Downtown Container Park is a family-friendly outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment place.  Made completely of shipping containers stacked upon each other, this unique venue offers a variety of boutique shops and food outlets. There is a kids play area with 30 foot slide and water area in the middle of it. I just thought it was cool in seeing all the used shipping containers being used for other things:

My favorite thing about Container Park is this cool piece right when you walk in:

The Art of Pawn Stars

When I was Vegas, I made the customary trip to the Home of "Pawn Stars". I have taken photos of the place and put it on this blog before. This time I decided to take photos of some of the great art that they have. The first couple of pieces are by Stephen Holland

Peyton Manning
Yogi Berra
Bob Marley by Ronnie Wood (guitarist of the Rolling Stones)
Mick Jagger by Sebastian Kruger
The Stars of "Pawn Stars"
Outside on the building
And of course, I have to show all the people that visit it:
