A Short Visit to Auburn, CA

I went away for Spring Break. I went up to Reno which is a four hour drive from my house. On the way back, I stopped in the Gold Rush Town of Auburn, which is located about 30 miles from Sacramento. It cool little town with lots of history;

Auburn Fire House-built in 1891
This statue created by Kenneth H. Fox
is a tribute to the historical
significance of the Chinese worke in the construction of the
transcontinental railroad through the Sierra Mountains of
California.
Statue of Claude Chana who was the first to discover gold in the streambed on a local creek in 1849
And here are two pics of the Placer County Courthouse:

Auburn is a nice little town to take a side trip into.

Oakland Museum White Elephant Sale 2016

On Spring Break here, us educators get that every year. I am out of town in Reno, enjoying and having some adventures in that city. Anyway, I got to go to one of my favorite things which is the Oakland Museum White Elephant Sale. It is held once a year and you can buy almost anything. I spent most of my time in the book section. All of the proceeds help the museum:

These were actually museum pieces from an exhibit

And where I spent my time:

One thing I kind of noticed and that is last week, I passed the four-year mark on this blog. Pretty cool deal. Thank you to all those who have spent a nano second looking at this. It makes me smile.

Embarcadero Walk II

The cranes at the Port of Oakland across the Bay
I have blogged about walking the Embarcadero in San Francisco. It was the walk from the Ferry Building to Pier 39, which is a pretty fun walk. Not along ago, I decided to start my walk at the Ferry Building and go the opposite direction to AT&T Park, the home of the San Francisco Giants. It was a little more gritty equally as nice:

This place is killer

And some great public art:

"Soma"
"Sea Change"
And sometimes you see people doing a job:

Now, I know that both ways are a great walk.

Mirym & Jane's The Comic Shop

I got lucky when I went to Dollar Tree in San Leandro, in the same strip small, Miryam &Jane's The Comic Shop had moved there. I was a happy person. The Comic Shop is one of the coolest around and they some really cool items:

And (to me) the coolest item there:

You can't beat this Star Wars cookie Jar
I am so glad that The Comic Shop has found a new home.

Walking Through the Ferry Building

I have shown many pics of the San Francisco Ferry Building from the outside but I have never shown the inside. The inside has many shops and dining. Most of which caters to finer tastes in life.  It is also a ferry terminal for ferries that crisscross the Bay.  It was opened in 1898. One cool thing about it is that it survived both the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes:

Plus it has great views:

The Ferry Building is a great San Francisco treasure.
