Joe Sam at MOAD

Joe Sam is quite the amazing person, he has a Ph.D in education and Psychology and is also a self-taught artist who has been doing his mixed media for over 40 years.

The Museum of The African Diaspora in San Francisco has an exhibition of his work going on:

I really liked Joe Sam's work and would like to see more of it.

Hanging in the Sutro District

I was in the Sutro District of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco. The Sutro District was once home to the famous Sutro Baths which were built in 1894 as the world's largest indoor swimming pool. For a long while, it was a popular venue but by the 1960's it was no longer profitable and it was sold to developers to make high-rise apartments. The developers started to demolish the Baths and in 1966, there was fire that burned what was left and the city decided not pursue the apartments. The ruins have been part of the National Park Service since 1973:

Besides the ruins, there is a great view of the Pacific Ocean:

The Sutro District is a cool place to hang out in San Francisco.

Music Monday: Songs About History

For this Monday, here are some songs that inspired by history or historical people:

People don't know that this great George Harrison song is a tribute to John Lennon:

And this one is a tribute to legends Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson:

This classic is dedicated to Andy Kaufman:

Sadly this song is about the 1979 Cleveland Elementary School Shooting is San Diego, when a 16-year-old- female opened fire from her house to the playground:

Not all historical events are happy sad to say.

Welcome to Double Nickels

I am turning Double Nickels this week. I really can't believe it, At one time, I used to think that 55 was old but here I am embracing the journey and enjoying every bit of it. Life is precious and here are pics from my 54th journey around the sun (Note what some call my eccentric fashion choices):

With the A's Championship Trophy

With the Willie Mays Statue-outside of Oracle Park-Home of the San Francisco Giants

And what was cool was sharing the journey with my kids:

I did meet one celebrity during the year- Original Cure drummer Lol Tolhurst:

Like the  musical play Soul Train - The Hippest Trip in America, I hope that this 55th journey around the sun is just as hip as my 54th:

Leaving you Love, Peace and Soul.
