Transforming San Francisco's United Nations Plaza

 

San Francisco's United Nations/Civic Center Plaza basically has been a place to be avoided for years It was the 4 S's - Scuzzy, Scaly, Sordid and Sleazy.  A lot of crazy things went on there- A lot of homeless, people with mental problems and add to the fact that it was an open-air drug emporium (not talking about people smoking pot but people shooting up and doing other hard stuff) and a lot of crime.

The city closed it and gave it a multi-million dollar facelift. They moved out the scuzz and some of the sordidness and replaced with a cool space that games, places to relax, a skateboard park and a fitness area:

The nice thing about it is the city hired attendants to keep the place clean. It has been a couple of months since the reopening but the place has been kept up and the 4 S's have not returned.
