The USS Midway (CV-41) was an aircraft carrier that was commissioned eight days after World War II ended. She was in service from 1945 until 1992. The Midway saw action in the Vietnam War and in Persian Gulf I.
The ship became a museum in 2004:
The Ship's Chapel |
The hospital aboard the ship |
Chief's Berthing Area |
Radio Operations |
Combat Information Center |
But when you talk about Aircraft Carriers- it is all about the aircraft:
The USS Midway is an amazing ship and I am glad that I got to visit it:
With Saturday being Veterans Day, please say a prayer of thanks to all those who have served this country.
...quite a floating city with an airport!
ReplyDeleteYes, sad that in our world anyone has to serve to protect our country, but so glad for those who are willing. They are awesome people, and pray for them often. Thanks for sharing your great photos of your visit.
ReplyDeleteImpressive. I've been to the Intrepid, an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum in New York, many times. As a previous commenter said, they are essentially little floating cities.
ReplyDeleteHappy a great week, and happy Veterans Day in advance!
What a beautiful tribute, Patrick. Beautiful.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour! And San Diego is paradise. My parents lived there. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI haven't toured an air craft carrier but I did tour a battleship - and got claustrophobic! Have to admire those who can adapt to life aboard such a vessel.
