During WWII, all branches of the US Military decided to standardize their recipes for the servicemen and women and to make sure that they decent meal when possible. The San Francisco Public Library has an exhibit featuring the recipe cards from that era along with some cartoons:
To me, this is a piece of Americana that is a true treasure to see.
It is a treasure. Patrick, when I was a little girl they still showed cartoons on TV that were WWII inspired. It was in almost every one of them. I love how the whole country came together for a common good.
