The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption
I took a little Christmas Blog Break, but I now I am back.
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption or St.Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco is the mother church of the Roam Catholic Archdiocese of the counties of San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo. Also, it is the metropolitan cathedral for the Ecclesiastical province of San Francisco. It was blessed in 1971 and in 1996 it was formally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under its current name. The first Papal Mass in the cathedral was celebrated by Pope John Paul II in 1987:
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption is one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen.

Very modern. - Margy
ReplyDeleteWhat an unusual place. I think I prefer more traditional architecture for churches, but "traditional" is changing constantly, isn't it?
