Walking at Quarry Lakes

Quarry Lakes is located in Fremont, Ca. Before being turned into a beautiful park, it was a gravel quarry from about 1912 until 1972. Between 1975 and 1992, the East Bay Regional Parks District and the Alameda County Water District purchased the land and started to convert the land into a Park. The 471 acre park opened up in 2000:

Quarry Lakes is a gem and I am lucky that it is 10 minutes from my house and I need to spend more time there.

  4. We have quarry lakes on nearby Texada Island where rock was removed for the cement plant. It was a favourite spot for local swimmers in the summer until it was closed due to trash being left behind. - Margy

  10. Looks lovely. I don't think I've ever been there, even during the year I lived in Fremont (near Lake Elizabeth).

Hope you have a great week, and stay safe!

  14. How wonderful to have such a place so close! I am amazed at what can be done with an old quarry. There are several here in New Zealand that have been turned into water gardens.

Your link at 'My Corner of the World' is greatly appreciated!! I'm glad to see you this week!
