Music Monday: Building the Early History of the Rock Era

Music Monday: Some history of the early building of the rock era as they song below is considered in creating a dividing line in music and ushering in the rock era:



The first song that hit number one that was specifically written for a motion picture:


The first female to hit number in the rock era:


Elvis Pressley first number one hit:


The First African-American artist to hit number one:


Because he is my favorite artist from the era:



A couple months shy of nine years since the rock era, this song was the last number of the era of innocence (I guess you can say) and another dividing line was created and rock music was changed forever as this song was the last number one before The Beatles:

  1. This is a fantastic set, Patrick! I love all these songs, especially Bobby Vinton at the end. From 1960-64 was like the calm before the storm.

  3. What a wonderful set full of milestones. (Although, as a bonus, I I would also have loved to have heard Louie, Louie #2 on the Bandstand survey that historic week. It was a groundbreaker in its own way, complete with an FBI investigation and the F word yelled by one of the bandmembers when he messed something up.
