I visited the town of Murphys California. Murphys is an old mining town. It was founded by John and Daniel Murphy in 1848 as 'Murphys New Diggings" and changed its name to Murphys in 1935. It is located in Calaveras County and is known as the "Queen of the Sierra".
Murphys is a small town but it has a real cool main street which is littered with shops, places to eat and wine tasting rooms:
The Murphys Pokey |
Murphys Hotel- One of the oldest hotels in California-Mark Twain and President Grant stayed there |
First Congressional Church built in 1856 |
The Old Segale Building-Built in 1859 as a grocery store |
Dunbar House-A Bed and Breakfast built in 1880 |
Of course it being in Calaveras County, you might see a frog or two:
But the coolest thing (at least to me) is the creek runs through the town:
Murphys is really cool place to take a day trip and hang out and enjoy the day.
Thanks for introducing a new place for me.
