Knitted Tree Art

Walking in the Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco over the last few months, the trees have been looking different. It turns out the Trust for Public Land which is a nonprofit dedicated to creating parks and open space decided to improve Civic Center Plaza, which is famous for homeless people, open drug use and discarded needles, they called Lorna and Jill Watt who own "Knits for Life". The Watts in turn wrapped the trees in different animals and stripes:

What is cool is that I have noticed that Civic Center Plaza is a little more fun and less scuzzy these days with this tree art and another thing I have noticed is that no one has defaced or vandalized these knitted creations on the trees (it may have happened but I haven't seen it).

  5. Knitted tree art?! Now, that's an oddity!

Colorful knits socked around tree branches makes the trees looked cared for. It makes you wonder how they knitted the work on the tree - by fastening the knits around, or by sleeving it over or under the tree itself!

Very creative, colorful, and outrageous pieces of knit-art-work.

Something that's, probably never been done before, a joy to see - trees being given care like humans give to humans!
