Walking Behind Hayward's Memorial Park

I went over to Memorial Park in Hayward and did some walking on the trail behind the park. Memorial Park is the home of one of Hayward's great institutions- The Hayward Plunge. The Hayward Plunge is a Hayward institution as an indoor aquatic center that offers swimming classes, water aerobics, lap swim and open swim times. It is open year-around (except these days because of COVID-19). It is a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project from the depression and opened in 1936. Generations of kids from Southern Alameda County (including myself) learned to swim there:

There is a small park outside the Hayward Plunge but I have always like going behind Memorial Park and the Hayward Plunge to the trail behind it:

Memorial Park in Hayward is an amzing place and I glad that it is in my home city/

  6. Your park is similar to ours, but the Fox River runs alone the middle and we have safe bridges that really let's us see the beauty. Some day I'll show you some pics as soon as my leg gets better. Stay safe... Stay healthy!

  14. What I'm hoping is one thing that remains after covid- these wanderings that people are doing in exploring their own area. #MLSTL

  15. When I was a kid we went to the Plunge in the town next door. I learned to swim at a private club in our town, but when I was a teen the Plunge was where every one wanted to gather in the summer. - Margy
