After years of not attending because of the massive crowds, I decided to attend the Hardly Strickly Bluegrass Festival. The festival is amazing as it is held in Golden Gate Park and it draws some really top names. The best thing about the three-day festival is that it is free. That is right- Free. That is why it draws about 750,000 people and that is why I usually stay away. Too many people. I only went for Friday but what a great day to go:
The great Mavis Staples |
Gregory Alan Isakov |
Tim Berry |
The late billionarie Warren Hellman's stage wear with his band. Hellman started and banrolled the festival in 2001. Before he died in 2011 he created a trust to keep the festival going and free |
And the first of the two reasons I went-Lindsey Buckingham:
And the other reason I went- Alison Krauss, who I have loved her music for ages:
The music of Hardly Strickly is second-to-none. I am so glad that I went.
I love Allison!!! Wow-what a great time!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWe've seen Mavis a few times - the first was at the Opera House as support for Blind Boys of Alabama but she really stole the show and blew the audience away - everyone was up cheering and clapping pretty much for her whole set. We love her!
ReplyDeleteVery nice and funny! Happy #MM and #WW
ReplyDeleteI really love Bluegrass! How fun! Have a great week adventuring
ReplyDeleteI bet that was great to see.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame that Lindsay is no longer with Fleetwood Mac.
I read the other day that he is suing them.
They are really not the same band without him.
Thanks for sharing!
