A Look At St.Ignatius Church

The front of St.Ignatius on the campus of USF
If anybody knows me, then they know I like old churches. I don't why, but I do. St. Ignatius is one of the oldest in San Francisco and one of the largest. This actually, the fifth St.Ignatius built in San Francisco and this one was dedicated in 1914, meaning it is 100 years old this year. It serves the neighborhood and is the university chapel for the University of San Francisco.

I visited it in January and it was still decked out for the holiday season:

Inside
Part of the ceiling
Part of the dome from the inside
The main alter
Some of the many stained glass windows
Some of the art work-All of it is amazing
The church is so large that it has some little chapels inside:

St. Joseph's Chapel-Blessed in 1924
The St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Chapel
And as I walking out, I almost missed this on the side of the church:

Out Lady of Lourdes Grotto
St. Ignatius is a beautiful church. It is great on the campus of USF.

Some Beatles Vids

Feb 9th, 1964 marks the first appearance of The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. The Beatles had just hit Number #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 eight days before on Feb.1st with "I Want to Hold Your Hand".  Ed Sullivan had book them for two weeks in row, Feb, 9th and Feb. 16th. Marking the start of Beatlemania.

The Beatles changed music. The period of 1960-1963 were innocent years in rock. They were less rebellious and the critics were not threatened or scared by the music. The Number #1 song before The Beatles was Bobby Vinton's "There! I've Said It Again". The shift in music came with The Beatles:

When the week of April 4th, 1964 came, The Beatles owned the the top five spots in the Billboard Hot 100 and 14 out of the top 100. Beatlemania was full in force.

Here some Beatles songs to enjoy:

By 1970, The Beatles had taken us on a Long and Winding Road and had shifted music for the better:

Dedicated to My Daughter

My daughter-Allison Marie Weseman
This blog is dedicated to my daughter-Allison Marie Weseman who is 18 today. It trips me out that 23 of my chromosomes created something so smart and beautiful. She is also a good kid on top of it:

With a doorman at the St.Francis Hotel
She is very curious about life and things:

And she is an athlete:

Running cross country
And she is smart. She has been accepted to seven universities:

At Fresno St.
And likes to still have fun:

With the A's mascot Stomper
Finally, I would thank her for being able to have the honor and privilege of being her father:

Allison, I Love You and proud that you are my daughter:

With the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics starting I thought I would share some autographs that I have. I have a lot more Summer Olympics than Winter Olympics people, but here is what I got:

Mike Eruzione-The hero of Tean USA-1980
Jim Craig-the goalie of the 1980 USA Hockey Team
Vladimir Tretiak-Considered one of the greatest goalies in the world-USSR-72-76-80-84
And finally, I got two from the great speedskater Bonnie Blair-USA 1984,88, 92, 94 and 96:

Hope the USA does well in the 2014 Winter Olympics and hopefully I can collect a few more.

Giants Fan Fest-2014

Getting for the baseball season to start spring training. I headed out the San Francisco Giants Fan Fest. It was a zoo, a lot of people there:

People on the field
People on the field as Fanfest comes to an end.

Fanfest is about meeting the players (I did not as the lines were too long but I listened to them being interviewed and in Q&A's):

Pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (center) talking
Manger Bruce Bochy being interviewed
Buster Posey during a Q&A
And seeing some of the old stars return:

Former Giants pitcher Dave Dravecky during a Q&A
And it also about walking around the yard, taking pics:

War Memorial Gym-Home of the USF Dons

The front of USF's Memorial Gym
Took the kiddos out to the University of San Francisco to check out the Lady Dons playing St.Mary's. In process I took a lot of pictures and here is a look at USF's War Memorial Gym-Home of the Dons. It is small as it holds only 5,300:

From the baseline
From the other baseline
War Memorial Gym was built in 1958. Just after the heyday of the Dons great teams. There are reminders of that great past inside:

Bill Russell's retired jersey
K.C Jones retired jersey
The two USF coaching legends
The back-to-back Championship banners

Saw this picture in the lobby. That is Bill Russell holding the ball
The 1955 Championship trophy.
Hopefully, the hilltop will have rebirth to its great past.
